Day Fifty-Six

Today I was on a field trip with my grade 9's. You were to do two things today:

1) Finish watching the Lonely Planet dvd on Cuba and Haiti. Complete the purple question sheets.

2) Begin answering the Passport to the Caribbean reading and answer Part 1 of the questions. These were not assigned for homework :)

Day Fifty-Five (Thursday)

There were a number of field trips today so our numbers in class were low. What better way to jump in to our new region than by watching Pirates of the Caribbean??? :)

Day Fifty-Four

Today we worked on two set of question sheets on the topic of the Caribbean:

1) The climate of the Caribbean
2) The physical origins of the Caribbean

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

Day Fifty-Three

In small groups you traced a map of the Caribbean (using an overhead) on to a large piece of poster paper. This provided you with an opportunity to see the Caribbean in large, and get a feeling for the geographic locations of the various islands. You will be using these maps for your Design a Cruise project a few weeks from now.

Next, we did some note-taking on the geographic location of the islands, types of islands, and their cultural make-up.

Day Fifty-Two

Introduction to Unit 3: Travel and the Economy, with a focus on the Caribbean!

Today we learned about Bob Marley and some of the history behind Rastafarianism.
We did a large mind map of the Caribbean on the front board... and discussed what you need to do at the start of tomorrow's class: find a projector, get an overhead of the Caribbean from me, cut paper from the roll, find pencils, and get rolling!

Day Fifty-One

Test!

Today we had a lesson on the topic of Slum Tourism, or 'Poorism'. Click here to access the powerpoint. You may notice that this is a modified version of the slide show I used in class today ... I had to take out some of the images because the file was too big for google docs!

Okay, now we need to concentrate on our Travel Health projects. We will be working on this in tomorrow's class. You have two choices for this project:

1) Choose a common travel disease (ie: malaria, yellow fever, hepatitis A&B) and become an expert, or

2) Choose a travel region of the world (ie: East Africa, South-East Asia, Latin America) and find out what health precautions someone would need to know before travelling there.

All of you work should be presented in either Powerpoint or google.docs and sent to me when finished. Please don't include your last names on the project as I will be posting them to the blog!
