Day Sixty-Four

We started class by seeing where sea turtle lay their eggs on the shores of Tobago. What magnificent creatures!

We took up the Tobago case study. There are 3 important things you need to come away with:

(i) Be able to show evidence to support which stage of tourism development Tobago is current in.
(ii) Provide 3 objectives for the Tobago government to provide economic develpment in the area of tourism for the next 10 years.
(iii) Make a prediction (based on your question ii) for the future of Tobago: rejuvenation, stability, or decline?

Next, we started your Matari: Building an Ecotourism Trail assignment.

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Day Sixty-Three

(i) We started with a documentary (click here for handout) looking at Ecotourism.

(ii) You completed the questions on the handout from the Tobago case study.

Day Sixty-Two (Monday)

A bit of a tricky topic today: The Stages of Tourism Development.

See pages 95-98 in the textbook. You will be doing a case study on Tobago.

Day Sixty-One (Friday)

Today we completed worksheets on the following topics:

(i) Tourism's Effect on Communities (Positive Impacts)
(ii) Foreign Ownership (Negative Impact)

Please be able to show how the Ripple Effect (also known as the Multiplier Effect) operates. For example, if you were to consider the act of buying a locally made souvenir, how would the revenue from that sale 'ripple' through the economy of that Caribbean country? We did a few examples on the board.

... and then we ate Jamaican patties. Yum!
